I don't even know how many tattles I hear on a daily basis. I've tried ignoring them. I've tried having kids write them down and put them in a "tattle box" (it was a much bigger hassle having to help them spell all the words). None of it worked. Now I just say "oh, that's too bad" or "get over it" and move on. Most of the time I hear sound coming out of their mouths but don't always hear actual words. However, I've actually paid attention the last couple of days and haven't been disappointed. Here are a few of my favorites.
"He just called me a crybaby." (Have you heard yourself?)
"Anna just called me a chicken dancer." (I don't even know what that means but apparently its very offensive.)
"When I went to talk to Kim she called me a dork." (I've done this. Not to a child but I've done it.)
"Anna told me I talk too much." (I had to agree. Although I'm not sure if I did this out loud or in my head.)
"When the sub was here Anna said that she's prettier than you." (Rude. Anna isn't my favorite kid.)
"Miss Sorenson! She's going to tattletale!" (So you decided to do it first? Way to strike first.)
This week I got a new student. He's quite a charmer and has already found himself a girlfriend. I've noticed them holding hands in the classroom. I thought that's all there was to it. Thanks to the tattlers in my classroom I've learned there's a little more going on.
"This morning Chris jumped on Kim in the library."
"Kim told me that at recess Chris kissed her on the mouth."
(Chris and I had a talk today about what is and isn't appropriate at school.)
Miiiissss Sooooreeennsoooonnn!! I had a tattle, but I can't remember it now...it probably had to do with Seth.
ReplyDeleteIs a "chicken dancer" something like on Arrested Development?
ReplyDeleteKristi! I was so happy you found me so I could find you. This entry made me laugh. I have a daughter in first grade and I can relate to these tattling moments. I think my favorite was the "chicken dancer" one!
ReplyDeleteDang. Mouth kissing and jumping on the girl. That kid is a sex offender in waiting.
ReplyDeleteYou are a very patient person...
ReplyDeleteDo you remember the chapter in Mrs. Piggle Wiggle about tattle tales? She give the kids some special medicine and when they tattle these huge ugly black tail shaped clouds form over their heads instantly curing everyone from ever wanting to tattle again. Wish you had some don't you? As far as curing the PDA good luck!
ReplyDeleteWait? What's not appropriate?
ReplyDeleteKristi, is that why you never give me boy names when venting about dating?
ReplyDeleteYou think I'm a tattler!

That's what Brady gets for being such a crazy boy sometimes. I love blogging and catching up on old friends and family. I linked to you from Amy Allred through Amber Cox (brady's sister). email me and I'll give you my blog address. audreyscox@hotmail.com. Great to see you again. I loved looking at your school pictures over the years and reading about your experiences.

I just ask if anyone is getting hurt and then give them a look that says, "go back to your seat," but I like your internal commentary better, too bad it might tick off some of my parents. You've been to Spokane recently? What were you doing there? I live 1.5 hours from Spokane. If you visit again, let me know, maybe we can do lunch. I have a friend there that I visit a lot.
